Homemade Hash Browns
  • Preparation: 10 min
  • Cooking: 15 min
  • Makes: 1 serving (267 g)
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Diets: Dairy-free, Gluten-free, Vegan, Jain, Halal, Kosher, Seventh-day Adventist Diet

Ingredients

  • 0.5 g Salt, table
  • 1 g Spices, pepper, black
  • 15 g Olive oil
  • 250 g Potatoes, red, flesh and skin, raw

Method

  1. Prepare the Potatoes Peel the potatoes and grate them using a box grater. Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out as much water as possible. Removing excess moisture helps the hash browns crisp up.
  2. Season the Potatoes In a bowl, combine the grated potatoes with salt and ground black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Shape the Hash Browns Divide the potato mixture into portions and shape them into triangles or patties, depending on your preference.
  4. Fry the Hash Browns Heat the oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the shaped hash browns in the skillet, leaving space between each one. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve Remove the hash browns from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot as a side dish or enjoy with ketchup or sour cream for dipping.
  6. Chef's Notes Texture Tip: For extra crispy hash browns, let the shredded potatoes sit for 5 minutes after squeezing out the water, then squeeze them again to remove any residual moisture. Add-Ins: You can mix finely chopped onions, garlic powder, or shredded cheese into the potato mixture for additional flavor.
