One serving has 215 kcal and 2 g protein, and at least a fifth of a woman's daily need of vitamin A (25%). Ready in 20 minutes.

- Preparation: 5 min
- Cooking: 15 min
- Makes: 1 serving (321 g)
- Difficulty: Easy
- Diets: Gluten-free, Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian, Vegetarian, Halal, Kosher
- Contains: dairy
Ingredients
- 200 g Water, tap
- 50 g Milk, whole
- 20 g Butter, NFS
- 0.5 g Salt, table
- 50 g Grits, NFS
Method
- Boil Water and Milk In a medium-sized saucepan, bring the water and optional milk to a gentle boil over medium heat. Add a pinch of salt to the boiling liquid.
- Add Grits Gradually whisk in the grits to prevent lumps from forming. Reduce the heat to low.
- Cook the Grits Simmer the grits, stirring frequently, for 10–15 minutes until they thicken to a creamy consistency. If the mixture becomes too thick, add a splash of water or milk.
- Add Butter Stir in the butter until it melts and is fully incorporated. Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt if needed.
- Serve Spoon the grits into a serving bowl and top with an extra pat of butter, if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!
- Chef's Notes Optional Additions: Enhance the grits with shredded cheese, fresh herbs, or a sprinkle of black pepper for extra flavor. Dairy-Free Option: Replace the butter with a plant-based alternative and omit the milk or use almond or oat milk. Consistency Preference: Adjust the liquid ratio to achieve your desired consistency—thicker for a hearty meal or thinner for a lighter side.
