Pan de Muerto
One serving has 481 kcal and 11 g protein, and at least a fifth of a woman's daily need of thiamin (56%), selenium (54%), riboflavin (46%), folate (38%), niacin (30%) and vitamin A (27%). Ready in 200 minutes.

- Preparation: 165 min
- Cooking: 35 min
- Makes: 1 serving (145 g)
- Difficulty: Medium
- Diets: Vegetarian
- Contains: dairy, egg, gluten
Ingredients
- 62 g Flour, all-purpose
- 15 g Sugar
- 20 g Butter, unsalted
- 25 g Eggs, whole, raw
- 1 g Yeast, active dry
- 20 g Milk, whole
- 1 g Lemon zest
- 0.5 g Anise seed
- 0.5 g Salt
Method
- Dissolve the yeast in the lightly warmed milk with a pinch of the sugar; let stand for 10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix in the flour, remaining sugar, salt, egg, lemon zest (standing in for orange zest) and anise seed, then knead in the softened butter a little at a time until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
- Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1.5 hours, until doubled. This recipe gives 1 portion (one slice); multiply everything by 8 for a whole loaf.
- Shape the dough into a round with small dough 'bones' and a knob on top, then let it rise again for 45 minutes.
- Bake at 180°C (355°F) for 30-35 minutes until golden and it sounds hollow when tapped.
- Brush the warm loaf with a little melted butter and dust generously with sugar before slicing.
