Ingredients
- 50 g Flour, bread (strong)
- 32 g Water
- 1 g Yeast, active dry
- 1.5 g Sugar
- 0.8 g Salt
- 3 g Vegetable oil
Method
- Dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water and let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix in the flour, salt and oil, then knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
- Shape into a round loaf and press your fingertips (or a rolling pin handle) into the middle of the loaf to make the traditional dimpled pattern, leaving a thicker rim around the edge.
- Let rest for 15-20 minutes, then bake at 220°C (425°F) for 20-25 minutes, until deep golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Cool slightly before slicing. Makes 1 slice; multiply the ingredients by 8 for a whole loaf.
