One serving has 371 kcal and 8 g protein, and at least a fifth of a woman's daily need of selenium (45%), thiamin (45%), riboflavin (34%), folate (30%), niacin (27%) and vitamin K (27%). Ready in 690 minutes.

- Preparation: 30 min
- Cooking: 660 min
- Makes: 1 serving (153 g)
- Difficulty: Medium
- Diets: Vegetarian, Dairy-free
- Contains: egg, gluten
Ingredients
- 60 g Flour, all-purpose
- 12 g Vegetable oil
- 5 g Sugar
- 0.5 g Salt
- 30 g Water
- 15 g Eggs, whole, raw
- 30 g Tomatoes, raw
Method
- Mix the flour, sugar and salt with the water and half the oil into a smooth, elastic dough; knead for 8-10 minutes, then rest for 15 minutes.
- Roll the dough out as thin as possible, brush generously with the remaining oil, then roll it up into a long log and coil it into a spiral.
- Place the coiled dough in a small, heavily oiled, covered pot or baking dish.
- Bake, covered, at a very low 110-120 °C (230-250 °F) for 10-11 hours, traditionally overnight, until deep golden brown and richly caramelized.
- Meanwhile, hard-boil the egg for 9-10 minutes, cool, peel and halve it, and finely grate the tomato for a fresh dipping sauce.
- Unwrap the hot jachnun, pull it apart into flaky layers, and serve with the hard-boiled egg and grated tomato alongside.
