- Preparation: 10 min
- Cooking: 30 min
- Makes: 1 serving (101 g)
- Difficulty: Easy
- Diets: Vegetarian
- Contains: dairy, gluten
Ingredients
- 56 g Flour, self-rising
- 7 g Butter, unsalted
- 37 g Milk, whole
- 0.6 g Salt
Method
- Heat the oven to 200 °C (400 °F) and dust a tray with a little flour.
- Rub the butter into the self-rising flour and salt until it looks like coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the milk with a butter knife, just until the mixture comes together into a soft, slightly sticky dough.
- Turn out onto a floured surface, bring gently together into a round, and place on the tray.
- Cut a shallow cross in the top and bake for 25-30 minutes until deep golden and it sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool for 10 minutes, then tear or slice into wedges and serve warm, traditionally with butter and golden syrup.
- This is 1 wedge; multiply everything by 8 to bake one full round damper loaf.
