- Preparation: 15 min
- Cooking: 120 min
- Makes: 1 serving (575 g)
- Difficulty: Medium
- Diets: Gluten-free, Dairy-free, High protein

Ingredients
- 180 g Beef chuck, raw
- 50 g Onions, raw
- 60 g Carrots, raw
- 80 g Potatoes, raw
- 40 g Cabbage, green, raw
- 4 g Garlic, raw
- 0.3 g Bay leaves
- 10 g Vegetable oil
- 1 g Salt
- 150 g Water
Method
- Brown the beef in the oil at the bottom of a heavy pot (traditionally a cast-iron potjie) for 5-6 minutes.
- Layer the onion, garlic and bay leaf over the meat, followed by the carrots, then the potatoes, then the cabbage on top, without stirring.
- Pour the water gently down the side of the pot and season with the salt.
- Cover with a tight-fitting lid and simmer very gently for about 2 hours, resisting the urge to stir, until the meat is tender and the vegetables are cooked through.
- Serve straight from the pot, spooning down through the layers.
