Zuppa Inglese
One serving has 349 kcal and 10 g protein, and at least a fifth of a woman's daily need of cobalamin (41%), choline (41%), riboflavin (35%), phosphorus (31%), selenium (27%) and pantothenic acid (25%). Ready in 40 minutes.

- Preparation: 30 min
- Cooking: 10 min
- Makes: 1 serving (168 g)
- Difficulty: Medium
- Diets: Vegetarian
- Contains: alcohol, dairy, egg, gluten
Ingredients
- 30 g Ladyfingers
- 10 g Spirits
- 80 g Milk, whole
- 20 g Egg yolks, raw
- 20 g Sugar
- 5 g Cornstarch
- 3 g Cocoa powder
- 0.3 g Vanilla extract
Method
- Whisk the milk, egg yolks, sugar and cornstarch together in a pan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for 5-6 minutes until thickened into a smooth custard; stir in the vanilla.
- Divide the custard in two and stir the cocoa powder into one half to make a chocolate custard; let both cool slightly.
- Briefly dip the ladyfingers in the spirits (a stand-in for the traditional red Alchermes liqueur) and use them to line the base of a small glass or dish.
- Spoon over a layer of the plain custard, then a layer of the chocolate custard, repeating with more soaked ladyfingers in between.
- Chill for at least 2 hours before serving cold, so the layers set and the flavors meld.
