One serving has 294 kcal and 4 g protein, and at least a fifth of a woman's daily need of manganese (79%), copper (68%), pyridoxine (46%), vitamin C (42%), thiamin (26%) and fiber (21%). Ready in 35 minutes.

- Preparation: 10 min
- Cooking: 25 min
- Makes: 1 serving (121 g)
- Difficulty: Easy
- Diets: Vegan, Gluten-free, Dairy-free
Ingredients
- 120 g Chestnuts, roasted
- 0.5 g Salt
Method
- If starting from chestnuts in their shells, score a cross or a straight slit through the flat side of each shell with a sharp knife so they don't burst as they cook.
- Spread the chestnuts in a single layer in a roasting pan or, traditionally, a heavy perforated roasting pan held over hot coals.
- Roast at 220 °C (425 °F) for 20-25 minutes, shaking the pan halfway through, until the shells curl back at the cut and the flesh is tender.
- Wrap the hot chestnuts in a clean, thick cloth for a few minutes; the trapped steam makes the shells easier to peel.
- Peel while still warm and sprinkle lightly with the salt.
- Serve warm, straight from the paper cone or bowl, as is traditional from Portuguese street vendors in autumn and winter.
