- Preparation: 135 min
- Cooking: 2 min
- Makes: 1 serving (159 g)
- Difficulty: Easy
- Diets: Vegan, Dairy-free, Gluten-free
- Contains: mustard
Ingredients
- 25 g Split yellow moong dal
- 100 g Cucumber
- 15 g Coconut, freshly grated
- 3 g Green chilli
- 4 g Coriander leaves
- 8 g Lemon juice
- 3 g Vegetable oil
- 0.5 g Mustard seeds
- 0.3 g Curry leaves
- 0.1 g Asafoetida (a pinch)
- 0.5 g Salt
Method
- Rinse the moong dal and soak it in cold water for 2 hours, until it can be crushed between your fingers but is still crunchy. Drain it well.
- Finely dice the cucumber (peel it first if the skin is thick) and squeeze it lightly if it is very watery.
- Mix the dal, cucumber, grated coconut, finely chopped green chilli and coriander in a bowl.
- Heat the oil in a small pan and add the mustard seeds. When they pop, add the curry leaves and asafoetida and pour this tempering over the salad.
- Add the salt and lemon juice and toss just before serving: added early, salt draws water out of the cucumber. Serve at once, as part of a festival meal or with rice and sambar.
